Sachida Nagdev was an Indian painter born in 1939 at Ujjain, one of the historic cities of Madhya Pradesh. Nagdev is well known for abstract oil paintings with usage of harmonious colours. He is one of the experimental artists who created his signature style through amalgamation of style of Indian miniature painting with modern abstract art. He studied at Sir J.J. School of Art, Bombay and also did Master in Ancient Indian History at Vikram University, Ujjain. His works were exhibited at both the national and international arena such as Indian Triennale, New Delhi, 1974; the Biennale, Bhopal in 1986 and 1992; Osaka Triennale, Japan in 1990 and 1993.
Nagdev was honoured with several fellowships such as the Amrita Shergill fellowship from government of Madhya Pradesh for creative art in 1976 as well as received fellowship from government of India in 1984-86 for research in the area of India’s painting traditions. He was felicitated with Shikhar Samman – highest civilian award bestowed by Madhya Pradesh government; Yomiuri Telecasting award at the Osaka Triennale of 1990 in Japan. His works is part of many public and private collection such as National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; Contemporary Art Musuem, Osaka, Japan. He passed away in 2017.
