September 2023 saw the grand arrangements for the G20 Summit in the Capital. As we gear up with optimistic energies for our yearly flagship event, the 32nd edition of ‘The Ravi Jain Memorial Foundation Annual Awards 2023’. This platform encourages the budding talent to participate, with entries received not only from India but also from USA, Kuwait. The shortlisted artworks are exhibited and we have been giving fellowships. Late Shri Ravi Jain was a patron of art and always believed that if the art movement in the country has to be perpetuated, then young talent has to be constantly nurtured. Keeping this vision in mind, after Shri Ravi Jain’s untimely death in 1991 his wife Smt. Uma Jain initiated this foundation in His memory. The last 3 decades has seen over 100 artists and sculptors establish themselves on new grounds through the foundation. Many of whom are celebrated names in the contemporary art scene, such as Hemraj, G. R. Iranna, Nidhi Aggarwal, Sonia Khurana, M. S. C. Satya Sai, to name a few. In addition to this the awardees and the jury have played a pivotal role in showcasing varied innovative and experimental artworks. There is an independent jury year on year, which has senior artists, critics, sculptors, and eminent personalities from the art fraternity. BC Sanyal, K. S. Kulkarni, Krishen Khanna, F. N. Souza , Anjolie Ela Menon , Shanto Datta, Keshav Malik, His Excellency Celeste and many such stalwarts have been part of the jury to encourage the young artists and give them a fair and highly acclaimed recognition. This year’s esteemed jury includes Farah Siddiqui, Kavita Nayar, Krupa Amin, Manish Pushkale, Martand Khosla and Ranbir Kaleka.
Large numbers of entries that have been received are from across India: A true testimony of this event being held close to the heart of all the students and the art fraternity. It’s enriching to see the kind of variety and the fearlessness with which young artists work – from fundamental fabric to high tech digital installations, videos, sculptures using various mediums.
We are also striving to give these awardees and participants a meaningful significance in our exhibition and fair line up. Many of these artists have found representation with other major galleries like CIMA, Art Heritage, Gallery Espace and many others. I would like to wish all the participants the very best and hope that their enthusiasm for creativity only grows with time.
