Established in 1936, Dhoomimal Gallery has endeavoured to bring Indian art and culture to the fore and provide a platform to showcase both upcoming and the most eminent Indian artists. One of the most important objectives of an art gallery is that it is a viable place where communities of art enthusiasts and artists come together. It is the bridge between the people and the artists. In its space the profoundest creativity meets its appreciative viewer. In continuance with the tradition of the Dhoomimal Gallery, I have firmly believed and supported the essential interconnectivity of various fields of arts. Indeed, art in its various forms is an ode to the creativity of human civilisation. It is in this celebratory spirit that Dhoomimal Gallery has emerged as an intensely vibrant space of artistic, creative expressions and interactions in the capital.
Dhoomimal Gallery has, over the last nine decades, presented the works of numerous highly eminent artists. I am indeed delighted to present Nupur Kundu, an incredibly talented and prolific artist. Nupur Kundu is a well-known abstract contemporary Indian artist with numerous prestigious projects and national and International exhibitions and is a recipient of various awards and honours. I have had the privilege of witnessing Nupur’s artistic journey unfold over the past three decades. She stands out as one of the most unwavering and consistent artists in her field.
The intensity and purity of chromatic expressions which she achieves with her impasto and palette knife techniques is indeed unparalleled. Over the years her canvases have evolved into subtle play with impressions as they are perceived in the creative psyche. These impressions are then projected as intense creative concentrations of energy and colour onto the canvas. Nupur achieves a remarkable compression in the layering of colour on colour till her canvas seems to be brimming with the inexpressible, her hues and scapes digging deeper and deeper into the unknown. Through her superb colourism and technique, Nupur like a lone adventurer, boldly explores multiple moods, energies and meanings, making the solo exhibition Hues and Scapes truly unique.
Nupur’s art transcends temporal and spatial confines, possessing a timeless quality that resonates across generations and geographical boundaries.
